Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties serves the charitable needs of residents through two major programs: Helping Hands, and Social Services. A general information overview of each program area is explained below with links to more specific information about various efforts with the programs.

Social Services

Program Director: Liz Herbes

ADFAC administers the City of Oak Ridge Social Services Fund as well as the Emergency Shelter Grant Program to intervene in the lives of the homeless and near homeless in Oak Ridge. Social workers meet with individuals to assess their situation and develop a plan of action.

Helping Hands

Program Director: Cindy Ross

ADFAC's owner-occupied Housing Rehabilitation and new construction program utilizes a combination of volunteer labor, contractor labor, and client sweat equity. Federal and State grants, as well as donations from churches and individuals, have enabled ADFAC to repair over numerous homes and construct many new ones.

ADFAC has consistently exceeded grant goals as well as completing projects ahead of schedule, thus reducing overall costs.
